Samsung is not exactly associated with adventurous marketing, yet in recent months the Korean electronics giant has been kicking up a storm with some fabulous viral films. (By that, we mean films that have actually been seen and shared by hundreds of thousands of people – not just viewed by the creative team, the client, the director and his mum).
The most recent of these is a cruel and unusual little gem launching today (Monday) and directing viewers to a site entitled www.millimetresmatter.com – promoting the new super-skinny Ultra II range of phones, which come in at a positively Size Zero 5.9mm. And what would be the best way to show this off? By hurling teeny tiny cream cakes at some plucky yet defenceless insects. Of course. Click on the image to the right to view the spot, creative for which came from The Viral Factory, London.
Despite making us wonder vaguely what we were doing with our lives, it's oddly compelling viewing, and the site also hosts a 'making of' which shows the ins and outs of the filming process should you feel the need to take revenge on that bastard bluebottle trapped in your double glazing. Hats off to Samsung for having a bit of fun, and fingers crossed it has the desired effect. We'll keep you posted.
And – for old times' sake – have a giggle at this excellent little film for the Samsung X830, or 'that flicky spinny one'. More epic silliness from The Viral Factory.
